EFT TAPPING

What Is Tapping EFT?

Tapping or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), is a takeoff on acupressure which, of course, is connected to acupuncture. You could say Tapping is a pretty old practice, being of ancient Chinese origin, except that it was actually discovered by Dr. Roger Callahan in the 1980’s. The story is famous in the worldwide tapping community.

Dr. Callahan had a patient who was terrified of water… swimming pools specifically. In the process of a “hands on” energy exercise, whereby the Dr. was touching energy meridians on her face, the fear vanished. What had literally, moments before elicited terror, now found her out sitting by the pool.

The process began to unfold and soon became available to a core group of advocates and evolved into what is known today as “Tapping”.

What Does EFT Tapping Stand For?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique, a term coined by Gary Craig, a retired Stamford engineer, who really ran with the initial discovery. Although it seems as though Gary was quite comfortable retired, he started teaching this new modality or model, which he named EFT or “Emotional Freedom Technique”. My first foray into tapping happened in the 1990’s with Gary’s seminars and videos.

As an aside, other marketers during the 80’s were charging $75 to over $100 for their recorded seminars while Gary was turning out incredibly comprehensive material for about $20. I was always impressed that this was not a profit venture for him but one rather of personal commitment. Because EFT involved tapping on various parts of the body it quickly began to be referred to as tapping.

Although Gary retired in the early 2000’s, he has come out of retirement recently to reenergize his Company.

Tapping Movie

Around 2005 a gentleman named Nick Ortner was so taken with the results he had obtained from tapping, he bet it all on making a documentary movie about tapping, titled, “The Tapping Solution”. The movie follows ten people who used tapping to overcome tremendous challenges, including 30 years of chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, insomnia, devastating grief and more. Both Nick’s book and film document real and extraordinary results that have inspired more than six hundred thousand people to follow suit by successfully applying tapping to their lives.

The film was a huge undertaking for a guy who had never made a movie leaving him $1.5MM in debt. It’s a testament to tapping that not only did he; survive the experience with the movie which was a huge success, and wrote a book “The Tapping Solution” that made the N.Y.Times bestseller list. His hat trick was the Tapping World Summit which last year brought in over 600,00 people from every corner of the planet for 10 days of seminars.

I have always believed from the stories, that Nick did a tremendous amount of tapping to accomplish these things. Struggles aside, all of this made a self-improvement super star out of Nick Ortner (and his sister Jessica who hostesses the annual event). For those who ask; can tapping really work? There were 600,00 people listening to these 10 days of sessions last year. The answer is; an affirmative and enthusiastic you bet it does!

The first book, entitled; The Tapping Solution: A Revolutionary System for Stress-Free Living, was published by Hay House in 2013.

Nick has also produced “first-of-their-kind” online programs that teach easy, effective ways to apply tapping to anything limiting a person’s life or health.

If you are curious, feel free to check out their newsletter at The Tapping Solution. Also, there are quite a few freebies on that site, more than enough to get smart about tapping.

Tapping Research

Peta Stapleton PhD of Bond University in Queensland AU has confirmed this.. She has also published numerous peer reviewed papers on the effectiveness of tapping for eating disorders. As a result of the work of Gary Craig & Nick Ortner, tapping is penetrating the traditional medical community at an ever increasing rate.

Dawson Church PhD has done extensive research on the genetic effects of tapping… fascinating stuff.  Dr. Church’s website is www.eftuniverse.com

Also the American Psychological Association (APA) while not advocating its use, has begun granting continuing education credits for psychologists to study tapping.

The number of Psychologist’s and M.D.s that endorse tapping is beyond the scope of this dialogue.

However, when more than 600,000 people attend your event (last years Tapping Solution Summit attendance)… you’re doing something right.

Tapping Chart

As Nick pointed out in the video up top (on the bottom if you are mobile), a critical part of the tapping recipe is to identify what you want to fix. Your desired result can be physical or emotional. It would be wise not to tackle anything too large, emotion wise, until you have a bit more of this under your belt. Start small until you are more familiar with the process then move up to bigger issues.

Tapping is very easy to learn and can be close to miraculous in its effectiveness. Even so, tapping still takes work and repetition. Never fear, because, the effort rapidly becomes enjoyable. Why? Because it produces nearly immediate results and results create promise that in turn creates excitement. It’s a joyous self perpetuating cycle.

Don’t forget… the emotional/nervous system logjams referred to above often have many layers. You might do a round of tapping on something that’s annoying you, for instance. Whatever it was calms down but you then realize it’s connected to something you forgot about years ago. You do a few more rounds and now suddenly you find yourself at the original wound in your childhood… keep tapping till you run through all the layers that come up.

By adulthood we have many, many layers of overlying experience in our brains and bodies. Be patient and consistent and you WILL untangle the knot.

How Does Tapping EFT Work

Recent studies in the West have proven that our bodies both emit and receive energy signals constantly. You might ask; where does the outbound energy go? We have no idea.

we can only describe the physical act… the tapping as well as it’s effects on our minds and bodies. As to what is going on in real time it is known that Tapping causes changes in the Amygdala glands deep in the brain.

Here’s the thinking; we store emotional events, both positive and negative in our bodies energy systems. Events stack up and pretty soon there is a sort of emotional clot or embolism that trashes our capacity to act rationally on that issue. The more emotion the original event held, the worse the logjam. To make matters worse, we often don’t even know the cause of the issue. The reason is that a lot of matters trace back to our childhoods and have long been forgotten. They may be forgotten but they’re still in there beating away on us.

Let’s say you grew up in a family that placed great emphasis on education. Like all children, you wanted your parents approval, giving rise to that voice of “I have to succeed”. When you hit a speed-bump and life provides an endless supply, you start to sweat, sometimes literally, when faced with difficulty.

This is an example of a situation that would produce anxiety. The degree would depend on the individual. Here’s the question… can you switch off the anxiety?

You don’t need to spend a lot of time with the example; anxiety-producing situations are as common as trees. Focus on the question, can you shut it off? Do you have the tools?

When we can laugh at our emotional traumas, secure in the knowledge we can shut them off, we have arrived.

Applications of Tapping

Tapping has been used successfully in an astonishing number of applications. Our bodies run on energy so it’s no surprise that being able to affect and control those energies can only lead to astounding results.

Jessica Ortner (Nicks Sister) has become an authority on weight management via tapping. She also wrote a N.Y.Times best seller on the subject.

Burnout

Allow me to close with a short discussion on Burnout. The following questions have been curated from the Mayo Clinics page on burnout;

  • Have you become cynical or critical at work?
  • Do you drag yourself to work and have trouble getting started once you arrive?
  • Have you become irritable or impatient with co-workers, customers or clients?
  • Do you lack the energy to be consistently productive?
  • Do you lack satisfaction from your achievements?
  • Do you feel disillusioned about your job?
  • Are you using food, drugs or alcohol to feel better or to simply not feel?
  • Have your sleep habits or appetite changed?
  • Are you troubled by unexplained headaches, backaches or other physical complaints?

During the tech crash of ’71 I lost in excess of $500,000 (Cash) in the stock market. A few years later, my beloved wife lost her fight with type 1 diabetes and died. It has taken me the better part of 10 years to get up again. I am a veteran of severe, rabid burnout and understand it intimately. Although it took a while, I can say that by using tapping I learned how to live again. There is 0 doubt in my mind as to the legitimacy of this amazing practice. Anyone reading this who is on the edge of burnout is welcome to get in touch, I’d be honored to help.

Remember

People tell themselves stories to avoid moving forward, to avoid what they at the time, see as failure. Do not let yourself succumb to this life chocking negative belief! It is the typical way we deal with stress in our lives. The problem is, at some point, the bill comes due.

Stop The Burnout

Burnout has become a huge problem in out society. With staying alive in the twin jungles of work and home, our stress levels are through the roof. Stress is a strange thing; it compounds itself until there is some sort of release. That relief might be a few aspirin or it might be starting antidepressants or it might be a genuine breakdown.

If, on the other hand, we were able to break the stress pattern (‘cause that’s all it is, a pattern we run) when it first shows itself, then all the rest of the negative behaviors never happen. Can you wrap your head around just how big a deal this is?

On a day when everyone but you was flipping out over some emergency, you are placid-calm-relaxed. You are seen as a leader because you are calm. Calm people have resources. Resource’s are where solutions come from. When you get home, you haven’t lugged the chaos of the day with you. You have calm to offer your wife and kids (and resources to help solve their challenges).

Count on Tapping.com will soon open a membership that will provide ongoing support to those struggling with burnout. It will be quite inexpensive and full of ways to tackle the stress beast. If you would like updates, click here and we’ll keep you posted.

We hope you made it this far and thank you for your personal responsibility in seeking ways to improve yourself.
